Side Table Overhaulin’

Busy over here finishing up details for the workshop this weekend and taking care of all my little people. Seriously, I have the best job ever!

Just wanted to share with you a quick little rehab!

Ok…a perk of being in the furniture business…friends come to you first when they need to get rid of something. That is exactly how I came by these side tables.

Jon picked them up for me and when he brought them in I was sooo excited! Why? Because I had the perfect spot for them in mi casa. So I know I have been doing lots for my own place lately but I had reserved January to really finish up some things that were on the to do list around here.

I had two mismatch-y tables in my living room…and not mismatch-y in a good way. These beauts seemed like the perfect replacement.

Here is one of the tables…

And now all dolled up…

I used two coats of Annie Sloan Arles then one white coat brushed over so the Arles would show through in areas. Good ol’ sandin’, some wax, new hardware, aaaaaand they’re done!

Don’t you just love those amber knobs?!

Tomorrow the laundry room reveal! Woot! Woot!

Stainless Steel Cleaning Recipe

My refrigerator FINALLY bit the dust. Seriously that thing was as old as the hills. I have been wanting to replace it for-EVER but I always had 42 other things that seemed more important. Alas the time had come to say goodbye to the dinosaur and hello sleek and shiny stainless steel! While I do love all that sleekness it does like to grab hold of all those messy little fingers that are always touching it.

In my efforts to keep my house sparkly at all…uhh I mean most…most of the time…yea that’s it. I do not care for those messy prints everywhere. Not so sleek.

I found a remedy that I thought was worthy of sharing with you all. Now I am sure you have your own trick and I would love to hear what it is but hey another trick up your sleeve never hurts, right?

What you need…

Olive oil…just use the cheap stuff
White Vinegar
3 cleaning cloths

Get it done…

  • Wipe down the whole fridge…or any SS appliance…with olive oil on you cloth.
  • Now go back and wipe it down with white vinegar using a new cloth
  • Take you third clean cloth and buff it all off. Seriously works like a charm.

Now I haven’t tried other SS cleaners but I love that I have all this in my pantry anyway and it is chemical free.

What are your cleaning secrets?

Things are SLOOOOW in the furniture rehabin’ department this week because I have an extra guest at the house. So glad to have some unexpected company and I am just trying to soak it all up. In other news he is a picture takin’ mc-smarty pants and fortunately for me he is letting me in on some of his secrets. For you that means MUCH better pics for you to feast your eyes on. Nice! Much needed instruction. I am a hands on learner and in my quest to figure it out on my own EVERYTHING I read sounds the same….blah…blah…ba…ba…blah. Ya know?!

Hope you are having a great week!!!

Menu Board Workshop FAQ

The menu board workshop has prompted lots of questions…understandably so. I am going to take a minute to answer the most FAQ for you all.

~ Can I create blank recipe magnets?

Absolutely! I will include 5 blank recipe magnets for each attendee. You will be able to use dry erase markers to write in a recipe. This is perfect for trying out new recipes!

~ How many recipe magnets can I make?

You can make up to 35 individual magnets and I will include 5 blank ones as well for a total of 40 magnets.

~ I like to add new recipes frequently. Can I add more recipe magnets later?

Yes ma’am! I have created an excel spreadsheet to input the recipes…just to keep them all the same size. I will email you the spreadsheet after the workshop so you can easily add new recipes…print…cut…glue a magnet and voila!

~ I am not able to come that day but I would really like to make one of these for my family. Can MD create my board for me?

Sure, I will be glad to make a board for you! I will create the board based on the colors you like. I will supply the materials for magnets and you will complete those at home.

~ I don’t cook. How could I remix this to work for me?

I am sure there are lots of ways you could get creative using this as an organizational tool for your home. Some of the ways that have been mentioned:

Chore chart (could work for adults or kids) ~ create a cleaning schedule

Simply use it as a calendar/scheduler dry erase board

~ What if I don’t feel like cooking?

LOL! Ok, so in truth I rarely “feel” like cooking but I have found that to save time and money it is nice to plan those nights in on your calendar. So remember to include things like “date night”, “out to eat”, “fend for yourself”, “breakfast for dinner”…just whatever works for your family!

Hey, if all doesn’t go quite according to plan move a meal…it’s a magnet. 🙂

Ok girls I hope this answers questions for you all and takes some of the pressure off. It is going to take some effort to get your meals together but I think it will be worth it! Please feel free if you think of anything else…ask away!

This Friday the 27th is the deadline to get your RSVP in! Go to our FB event page to let me know you are coming!

Sparkle…Sparkle…Bling…Bling…

Back in the Summer I was out with my favorite peeps checkin’ out some yard sales. Yes, me yard sale-ing can you even fathom it?!? We passed a group of people having a bazaar and we swung on in to check it out. Boy was that God’s hand! They did have a few things to sell, a bounce house, baked goods, and a fabulous face painter. Most importantly the people we met were so warm and friendly I felt like I had known them forever.

I found out they were a church group.  I was so excited to call my Mom when we left because I knew she was searching for a church home and I knew that I knew that I knew…did I say I knew…this was the place for her. She went…she loved it…she has a home.

Ok so that was awesome but also while I was there I bought the most fabulous bed for Maggie Rae. I seriously can’t wait to have some time to get to it for my girl’s room. Jon probably can’t wait either considering it is taking up space in his workshop. Poor guy.

Marsha, the pastor’s wife, asked me to make a cork board for her 10 year old daughter, Abijah, who my Maggie girl thinks hung the moon.

Abijah’s room is purple and green. The girl loves some color and some sparkle. Girl after my own heart, I got this.

Supplies:

Cork Board Panel
2 Feather Boas
Letter “A”
Scrapbook Paper
Paint
Felt Sheets
Sparkly Gems
Hot Glue Gun
Straight Pins

I used straight pins to tack the boa around the edge. I didn’t want the feather to be all goopy with glue so the pins worked well.

I painted the edges of the letter then used Mod Podge to adhere scrapbook paper to the front surface of the letter. I filed the edges of the letter with sand paper to remove any extra paper.
Grabbed my felt sheets to create flowers and leaves. Added some sparkly gems for a little bling. Abijah was pleased and hopefully by now it is covered up with pictures, notes, and whatever else a girl deems important.

It was really a lot of fun working with Marsha on this! Next up…Abijah needs props for her dance recital. More sparkles are in my future!

The Beast

I was so excited when I found this dresser at Goodwill! I had been looking for a new buffet for our dining room since I sold Pretty in White. It was perfectly ugly and perfectly priced…my favorite combination. I snagged this one for $12…warning results are not typical but I do enjoy a little happy dance when a deal this good comes my way.

Here is the beast as I found it…

Annie Sloan Arles for the body and Dark Walnut for the top. I planned on repairing the funky door but in the end I liked the look of the door off with the baskets instead. Helps it to look less like a dresser and more buffet-ish.

What do you think? Pretty sweet, huh? I am so happy to have it in my dining room! Makes the whole room look more finished.

Bonus: there was an entire Disney Scene It game tucked away in one of the drawers. I think the kiddos should have fun with that one. 🙂

Laundry Room Update

Happy New Year to my faves! Hope you all had a happy and safe weekend bringing in the new year. I myself am super excited about the feeling of a fresh start the new year brings! Actually, if we peek into God’s word for a minute we can see that not just the new year but every morning can be a fresh start.

The LORD’S B)’>For His compassions never fail.
They are new D)’>Your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my F)’>have hope in Him.”

Lamentations 3:22-24

Be encouraged, everyday is a new start! A new day to be all He created you to be!

I have totally left you all hanging with the laundry room overhaul. Well wait no more….because I know you have been on the edge of your seat…I am here to give you one more update before this baby is wrapped up.

Since Jon has been working like a mad man with the Christmas rush this is basically what it looked like for the month of December but the craziness is over so hopefully I will have a completely renovated room to show you in the next few weeks. Yay for me!!

Considering I have a family of 5 is it OK to say that I LOVE the new washer and dryer?!? Seriously, a whole lot a dirties can fit in there making this Mama’s washin’ duties much quicker.

Can you even recognize this room?

We did run into a bit of a snag with the tile and our uneven floors. Never fear the hubs is on it and will have it fixed up in no time. Really, what is a renovation without a snag or 12?
I will catch up on the Craft-A-Day series over the next couple of weeks. The last leg of the kid’s vacation got a little nutty…ahhh the best of intentions.
Happy back-to-the-routine week!
