Easy Peasy No-Sew Poodle Skirt

Maggie Rae and all the other kindergartners are having a 50’s sock hop at school to celebrate the 50th day of school. As soon as I got the info I knew pink and poodles were in my near future. I mean really…what else would a girly girl wear to a sock hop?!?

Now I am not a fan of Halloween. I just don’t get all the scary stuff but it never fails the kiddos have some sort of costume need this time of year. So now my whole crew will have 50’s theme attire for the Fall Festival this weekend.

I am no seamstress and my awesomely talented Mom was super busy so I had to improvise with this No-Sew Poodle Skirt by Victoria at ObSUESSed. She did an awesome job simplifying this project. Hey if I can do it…you can do it! Unfortunately, I found her tutorial after I had already attempted Maggie’s. Ummm can you say…disaster! Mom to the rescue! She saved me for sure and I was able to use Victoria’s tutorial for Cate’s skirt. Whew!

The only thing I changed was I did add a wee bit of sewing by stitching the edges rather than leaving them raw. Straight lines = no biggie. You can totally skip this step just depends on the look you are going for.

Here is my Maggie girl ready for her party!

The girls’ got moves…

This whole project was all a bit nostalgic for me. The oldie classics is what I grew up on. My mom was a fan therefore my sister and I knew all the lyrics. We had a LONG car ride to and from school so these tunes got us through it.

I’ll share the rest of the fam all decked out this weekend!

Fantastic weekend planned with lots of Fall goodness. Bring it on!

Glamified Girlified Par-tay

My Maggie girl turned 5 this week and started K5! Talk about a teary week for a mama. It’s the whole point right…help them grow, learn, mature, become independent. Then why is it so emotional? Watching some of my goals as a mother being achieved and it gets me right there in that spot. I know, I know so cliche but I still remember that chubby little dark headed bundle when they handed her to me. Oh no…here I go again…I better stop.

Maggie had a really fabulous birthday party this year! Her friend Madison has a birthday just a few days before Maggie’s so Madison’s mom, Jena, and I got really smart this year and combined their parties. It was so much fun! I think Jena and I had just as much fun as the girls with all our planning!

The girls had a glamorous spa day and a fashion show! Side note: I am still wondering where my spa day is…hmmm….

I thought I would share with you the pictures from this girlified party.

*Beware lots-o-pictures ahead*

The banquet is set. Jena took care of all the food and what a great job she did! The ladies menu included: yogurt parfait, veggies and dip, mini pizzas, “M” cookies, rice krispie treats, yummmm…

The stage is all set! Let the party begin…

Fabulous cakes made by Nonnie! Madison ordered chocolate and Maggie ordered strawberry. They were oh so yummy! Need a cake? Go here. You will not be disappointed!

Rooaaaaaar…fierce I know

I do hold a special place in my heart for little redheads. This fiery redhead just celebrated his 3rd birthday with a whole bunch of his closest buddies. Nathan’s Mama, Rosemary, is super talented herself and went all out with an adorable circus themed birthday party. Man! I wish I would have snapped a few pics of the decor. It really was so cute! Rosemary asked me to make a lion shirt for Nathan to wear for his party. Here is the little dude being as cute as ever in his lion tee…
Loved being able to celebrate with Nathan and be apart of the memory making!

The baby wave continues

In my circle of friends we have welcomed six babies within the last year and now we are expecting to meet the seventh in a couple short months. Gracious…don’t drink the water around here! This weekend we gathered around the newest mommy-to-be-again and showered her with lots o baby loot.

I do love a good party and an excuse to get a lil crafty! I was in charge of the party favors which is so up my alley. I decided to attempt cake pops made popular by Bakerella. While I was pleased with the end result I did feel like I had went to war with cake and candy coating but hey I came out on the winning side so all in all it was good. When or if I make them again it should go much smoother but with the first try there is always a learning curve.
Rolled, dipped, sprinkled, and ready for packaging
Ahhh…the finished product!

My girlfriend gave me the inspiration for her gift…really quite clever I thought. She is welcoming her third boy…wowza…so instead of the traditional big brother, little brother shirts she went in a totally different direction. She wanted each shirt to have monkey and each to be doing something different to correspond with “hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.” Love it! Here is what I came up with:
I made traditional fabric appliques for the monkeys and used a zig zag stitch to secure all the edges. For the lettering I used an iron on material I purchased at my second home…ummm…I mean Hobby Lobby. It is made by Purple Chimp and it is a printable sheet for iron on applique. You simply make your own design on your computer and print! Then follow instructions to apply to shirt. I have a couple sheets left. I think I will let me two oldest create their own shirts. Hmmm…sounds like another post a brewin’.
